‘These Things’ opens the hefty four-piece EP, and it does so with nothing but pummelling, unforgiving attitude. Packing an early Metalheadz-style punch, it’s all about the pneumatic kicks and grizzling reeces.
‘The Chant’ brings RV’s first Infrared solo EP to a fitting climax. A perfectly manipulated vocal hook twists itself inside out to create an engaging entry point before the sizzling bassline and chop-slapping cymbal splashes talk dirty to your dancing feet.
‘Be One Of Us’ is an altogether darker piece of the D&B pie. Serious ghost train grooves; from the chilling opener to the synapse-snapping bass melody to the scary-assed sample, everything about this screams dancefloor shock-out.
‘Part Of The Plan’ follows. Ingratiating itself with a euphoric air, thanks to some breezing synths and twinkling arpeggios, we’re soon dropped headfirst into the grime as the basslines take precedence. This one’s all about the croaky notes on the fill. Perfect for double dropping, RV’s distinctive bass play could roll deep in the mix for days on end.
